Ceramic (orion stout clay, yellow crystal matte, iron oxide stain), 2010
--Edit: I don't remember the name of the glaze on the band around the face!
This is from my first ever ceramics class, when I was a junior in high school. This is still my favorite of my ceramic pieces, and possibly my favorite piece of art by me of all media, and I think that's because the style of the mask sort of set the precedent that my art now follows. When I go at a certain material without any pre-conceived subject, my creations tend to have ancient, primal bearings; I semi-seriously (semi-jokingly?) refer to these as my "ancestral tappings" such as is the case with this piece- the only parameters set were to make a mask. Enjoy!
EDIT: Thanks for the DD!
